Programs & Services: Critiquing Groups Do you have a critiquing group that is accepting new members? Email us with the details. Calgary The Southern Alberta office of the Writers Guild of Alberta offers a critiquing group on the first and third Thursday of every month from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Indigo Signal Hill (5570 Signal Hill Centre SW) The group is open to all Writers Guild members. Non-members are welcome to drop in and see what we're about. For more information, please contact the Southern Alberta Office at (403) 265-2226. The WGA Calgary Teen Writing Group (for ages 15-18) meets monthly during the school year, facilitated by WGA Youth Mentor Rachelle Pinnow. This is a critiquing group focusing exclusively on science fiction, fantasy (all subgenres), including both YA and adult. We share each others triumphs and set-backs, and our discussions are often quirky, yet exhilarating. Any writer of speculative fiction may apply, but space may be limited as dates and locations of meetings vary. Please contact Barb Galler-Smith at 780-475-1826 for more information. The WGA's Women's Non-fiction writing group meets the first Monday of the month, at 1:30 at the Writers Guild office (11750 Groat Road). Discussions are lively and edifying, so we encourage you to attend - you wouldn't want to miss something! This is not a critiquing group, but is intended to give women writing in the area of non-fiction, and that can be pretty well anything, the opportunity to discuss issues and concerns specific to working in the genre. Call the main WGA office at (780) 422-8174 for more information. The WGA's Edmonton critiquing group meets on the last Thursday of every month at 7 pm. If you wish to attend, please contact Tom Lincoln for more details at (780) 909-5807. The WGA Edmonton Teen Writing Group (for ages 15-18) meets monthly during the school year, facilitated by WGA Youth Mentor Alexis Kienlen. For more information, call the main WGA office at (780) 422-8174.
Grande Prairie On the last Tuesday of every month at 7 PM, the Cygnets Writing Group meets on the lower floor of the Grande Prairie Public Library. This is an informal group of writers of ALL genres to get together and share information on markets and to critique each others work. You do not have to be a member of WGA to attend, there is no fee involved, and no obligation. If you simply want to know more about what they do, just show up, they'll be pleased to have you!
